Manifesting Memory

Have you grown your memory lately?

The ability to increase the capacity of your memory is a gift that very few people take advantage of. I thought I had a pretty decent memory, as I’ve been always good with names and faces. When it comes to trivia games where the answer is among the choices and my odds increase dramatically. This is because of something my high school science teacher taught us. Mr. Isaac was an interesting man who had memorized the every number and symbol on the entire periodic table and we always tested his ability in class by asking him what a specific value was. Time and time he would recite the values of the specific molecule mass or boiling point and time after time he would succeed. Finally one day I  piped up in class and asked “Mr. Isaac, how come you can do that, how come your memory is so strong?” he replied, “because I work it out, but more importantly Russell, you and everyone in this room can do the same thing too!” My science teacher went on to say “Every human being has the unique ability to retain any piece of information, such as a song on the radio, and store it infinitely in memory” Over time the neural networks used to access to these memories would degrade, however, the information would essentially still be there. Well that triggered something in my young hormonal mind and from that day on I decided this was how I wanted my memory to be, fit and strong as Mr. Isaacs.

Have you given your memory a work out lately?

As the years went on and I became more dependent on computers and calculators the use of my brain power seemed to be devoted to other things. I remember my friend who worked at a local computer retailer getting me my first digital hand-held organizer. I took the onus upon myself to store large amounts of information in that machine. I had everything like people birthdays, passwords, to-do’s, gift ideas, and yes even phone numbers. I almost relied on it too much and my memory recall became a little s-l-o-w-e-r. I always remember being in awe and admiring those people who could memorize quotes and thinking that it was so far outside of my ability at the time. Little did I realize that taking that organizer with me on a holiday trip to my nation’s capital would change my life forever.

One day while waiting for a friend that I was visiting on this vacation to get off work I went to the pharmacy to browse around, see if they had a photocopier. I had drawn a tattoo of my own design and wanted to make a few copies of the original. I must have been really into the photocopying because I have only a memory of setting my digital hand-held organizer on the machine, but don’t have a memory of remembering to grab it. That’s because I forgot it there, some mega memory I had! I was angry at myself for being absent-minded and worried about what I was going to do to remember all that information. I may not have always had a stellar memory but I was always optimistic and it wasn’t very long before I realized that I had lost my organizer for a reason… even if that reason took a while to come up with. A couple days later I had realized that the reason I lost it was because I didn’t need it to begin with in the first place! That was a pretty strong idea and I tested my faith in the theory by practicing my memory when I got home. Back then I had a million-dollar sales account that I managed and I used the belief of having a good memory to become great with codes and customer numbers. It was amazing that in less than a month of applying belief and action to my memory I had practically forgotten about the lost organizer. What was really amazing was that I know could remember 6-digit product codes, 8-digit customer codes and 10-digit phone numbers at will and surprisingly with ease! I can also remember long quotes from famous people and I use this skill that I am continually building in my speeches.

Are you ready to train your memory?

Memory is something that can be trained and the first step is belief. Do you believe that it is possible to teach an old dog new tricks? I do and have evidence to prove it… but that is another story perhaps. The main point of my story I want you to walk away with is that you can change your life anytime you put your mind into it. If you would have asked me back in high-school science class if one day I would be able to remember long quotes and numbers in my head I would have told you forget about it! Today, I write this from the perspective of the person who has chosen to become better and I am here to tell you to remember that anything is possible! Today I work with clients and help them build the kind of lives that they won’t want to forget!

Incredible Manifesting Part 3

A few days earlier I spoke about my friend and new manifestor who used her skills to win the grand prize at a conference we had both attended. You can read about the previous story here or the original story here if you haven’t yet read it. About a week had past week since I last spoke to my friend about manifesting and what she had to say may shock you!

Prior to manifesting the grand prize my friend had no prior experience weilding the awesome power Law of Attraction. After winning the contest with the secret I share with her she got home and wasn’t done manifesting. I guess once you are bitten with the manifestation bug you then try and concentrate more energy on bigger manifestations. The possibilities are endless when you know what you are doing, which is why I was so excited at what my newly manifesting friend had to say.

She told me that during the week when she returned to work they held a contest for a small prize at one of the staff meetings. Well, just to test out her new found manifestation powers she used the secret I shared with her and voila, she won 1st place again amongst all her colleagues and took home the prize. Are these instant manifestations or mere coincidence? Would you like to know the secret I shared with my friend? What would you manifest if you could have anything come your way?

The Power of the Right Coach

The Power of the Right Coach by Denis Waitley

Throughout history, most of the great achievements and incredible comebacks have been the result of an individual whose motivation to persevere was influenced by a coach or mentor. In science, art, politics, sports, and business, there is a common thread of having been coached among those who achieve greatness. A coach doesn’t need to be a professional consultant or counselor. He or she could be someone within your organization or industry, or it could be someone from your personal life whom you respect or admire.

A study was undertaken on the Hawaiian island of Kauai by two researchers named Emily Werner and Ruth Smith. This study, which followed more than 450 people from childhood through their adult lives, was an attempt to learn why some people are motivated to overcome severe disadvantages, while others from the same background seem to have been overwhelmed by their problems. This research continued for an incredible length of time: 40 years, to be exact.

According to the research, one of the most interesting qualities of these motivated individuals is their ability to recognize potential sources of support in other people, to look beyond the walls of their homes to find relatives, friends, teachers, or other role models who can provide help. This very important finding illustrates the benefits of forming mentor relationships to encourage achievement.

Choosing a coach or mentor is like having an additional correctional device to keep you on target. An analogy of this premise comes from aerospace technology. Years ago, the military used inertial guidance systems on missiles. Unfortunately, once the course of an inertially guided missile is set, it proceeds along that path with no capability for adjustments. It’s like a bullet fired from a rifle. Even when the aim is good at the outset, if the target moves unexpectedly once the projectile is in flight, the shot is going to miss. And if there’s one thing you can count on in life, it’s that the target is going to be moving! In the Gulf War of 1992, the Patriot missile that defended Israel and Saudi Arabia was introduced. Unlike previous defenses, this system had an advanced self-adjusting navigation system that continuously monitored the missile’s trajectory as well as the path of its swiftly moving target. The Patriot was able to make whatever corrections were necessary, regardless of changes in the position or speed of its objective.

A highly motivated person uses a coach or mentor in the same way when he or she has targeted a worthwhile goal. A coach or mentor can assist you in making adjustments and navigating through difficult times.

Finding coaches and mentors is an important mission, and you will no doubt have several over the course of your life. It is critical that you choose them wisely. Your mentor is someone to whom you’ll be committing a great deal of time and attention, and who ideally will take a very focused interest in you as well.

Empowering Your Decisions

Making a decision, even seemingly simple and non-threatening can be a frightful act to a lot of people. Many people are afraid of making decisions in fear that they will make a wrong one. Fearing that a wrong decision can be harmful, even fatal, people are locked into paralysis by over-analysis, meaning they are over-thinking their situation and unable to decide.

If you would like to make decisions more quickly, less painfully and more purposefully, here are the 3 D’s of Decision that you must keep in consideration.

Discern- In order to make a decision you first need to indentify a fork in the road. Your awareness and observation at the initial point that a decision arises will allow you to evaluate on a course of action. You cannot make a decision if you are unaware that you even have a choice, or similarly you cannot create your world if subconsciously you are reacting to a situation.

Take a minute to discern what you will have to do differently to make the change happen. Remember that indecision is still a decision and you will have to change your behaviour if you expect anything else to change. Identify what your options are, even if you currently don’t have the willpower to commit to following through. Awareness is the first step of change.

Be patient with yourself and don’t be afraid to explore the underlying causes of undesirable behaviour. Keep digging deeper until you’ve found the root cause of your indecision.

Decide - The next step in empowering your decisions is to simply decide. Your probably thinking if it was that easy to decide in the first place then you wouldn’t be reading this article. However, armed with the new information uncovered during the Discern stage, you know have the ability understand what is holding you back and build a new habit of overcoming it.

When it comes to taking responsibility for life keep in mind these ten two-letter words, “if it is to be it is up to me”. Taking control in your decisions is empowering, it feels good and makes you feel like a winner. It is a self-esteem deposit in your ability to make future decisions. Your ability to become decisive has to start somewhere, why not start with the decision to change how you decide?

Keep in mind that change happens incrementally, especially on a large scale. Most change is slow to evolve and it unfolds from the inside. Even the worlds largest tree and apple grows slowly from within. Celebrate the small successes as you move toward the bigger goal.

Disregard – Once you have made a decision you practice letting go any attachment to an outcome. I know you are probably thinking the reason you made the decision is because you desired that outcome. It doesn’t mean that you don’t still hope that outcome (or better) happens, it means that you will not beat yourself up or get emotionally unbalanced if it doesn’t arise.

Roadblocks and setbacks are going to be a part of the journey. You cannot avoid these any less than you can avoid deciding. Decision produces action which in turn results in successes and failures, acknowledge each one as equals and use them both as learning opportunities. Stay positive.

Be confident in yourself and have an expectation of success. Inner strength is the ability to stay strong even in the face of the most difficult of circumstances. Have faith in yourself and remain positive about the process. There will be ups and downs and the path is never straight. It takes courage to embrace our destiny as confident decision makers.

Have You Conquered Yourself?

Sometimes in the heat of battles between people, ideas, and institutions we become lost in the narrow focus of our best efforts. For example we might be so emotionally attached to an specific outcome it can blind us from seeing both reality and the best solution. We might have too much of a vested interest in “being right” or doing things the way we’ve always done them versus doing something new or doing the right thing.

“It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles.” — Buddha

To conquer yourself one must first know them self. Without knowing our emotional tendencies and hot buttons introduces an emotional bias to any situation and is as effective as it would be to put on a blindfold before you go sightseeing. In these situations if we truly intend to produce the most effective and efficient answer, then we need to focus on the parts of the equation that we DO have control over, ourselves.

“Conquering others takes force, conquering yourself is true strength.” — Lao Tzu

High performance is about getting through all the fog that’s from your past and stepping into your greatness, the real you. Stepping into your own personal clarity and power allows you intentionally perform in full capacity. It’s not about who you were or how you did things before, it is about deliberately and intentionally creating who you see yourself to be.

The process of growing into yourself is really all about the Law of Unfolding.

Read this powerful passage from the 1917 classic the ‘Conquering Yourself’ manual to gain a better understanding into this Law.

All progress of the individual is a matter of inner unfoldment. Life moves from
within, outwards. The germ or vitality is always at the center, not on the surface. The growth of the tree or the plant, of the animal or the fruit, is not that of adding on the outside, but a supply from the inside.

The individual determines his own position in life, according to the amount of
intelligent effort exerted. It is for this reason, that people NEVER WILL BE EQUAL, because there are those – the majority – who will not work to acquire this Inner Power

You, then, must rank among the Great, or the mediocre.

You have the conscious right to determine who you are at any given moment, no one can tell you who you are. You have the power to choose whether you will remain in the mediocre or rank amongst the great. No one can give this power to you, it is your birth right. However you can build a support team that can help you unlock your potential, and that alone could be all the difference.

During your growth you must constantly remember to exercise patience with yourself. Love yourself. Nurture yourself as if you were an acorn waiting to be fully expressed as a tree. Don’t beat yourself up for being a seed, celebrate your unfolding greatness of what you will grow into. Be you. Be great. Make your move.

Do you drink to enjoy yourself?

I had a talk with a coaching candidate who was looking to understand why they felt the need to drink socially but not regularly, unless of course they were out in social frequently.

At that moment I was cautious with my answer, I mean if we fully knew the underlying cause about any addiction it would likely cease to be addictive by definition right?

Regardless, the first thought that came to mind is that drugs and alcohol are a perceived enhancement for a deficit inside ourselves that we both consciously and subconsciously are experiencing in a situation.

Please allow me to explain. My belief comes from the observation and personal experience of drinking to break free from the “normal” or habitual way of being. The way we behave repeatedly become what is referred to as our conditioning. Whatever you want to call it, we often seek drugs and alcohol as the medium that brings out an altered and ultimately more desired state.

The hidden problem with this strategy is that the demonstrated solution (drinking or drugs) is just an illusion. The illusion is that you, or anyone else for that matter, requires something external to complete us or augment our experience. When it comes to drinking, the false belief is that we require alcohol to loosen us up, allow us to have fun, and make the experience much more enjoyable.

The downside of these fantasies is that for a small time we actually may see results, that is, we actually might think we are more socially functional by having the drink. Often, if only for a short time we are right, and the enhancement gets us through the stress or awkwardness of the situation.

Humans see things when they believe it, hence the phrase “I’ll believe it when I see it” or “Seeing is believing”. This becomes a problematic factor of human nature because now we “see” our actions (drinking) produce result and then we start to “believe” it is the answer. This only ensures that it will become that much more difficult to stop the no longer desired behaviour.

In our drinking example in order to get past the next social situation that they feel inadequate, you either use the alcohol as the crutch again or you will need to either come up with a brand new plan. The brand new plan is a feasible option only if given enough time and resources to commit to action, if either are missing then the effort is futile and you are highly likely to choose the path of least resistance which is the way you did it last.

So how do you combat this downward spiral of illusion? You must become conscious of the “positive intent” behind your actions. Every action we do is motivated by either a conscious or subconscious desire. When we detach ourselves from judgement about our actions, we make room to become aware of the positive intent behind our behaviour. Only when we have become clear about what this is can we empower change.

In our example of drinking the positive intent could have been “feeling confident and able to speak in public”. With that desire identified the person could finally begin to seek alternative solutions to bringing them that feeling. For example they could join Toastmasters or a local speaking club, or join a networking group to expose themselves to others in a different setting.

There are many ways to beat your behaviour and with the right support you can do it! How are you currently identifying and empowering your desired change in your behaviour now? I’m definitely curious, drop me a line and let me know what works for you or if I can help.

Here to serve and humbled by your greatness!
